“Life is to be lived. If you have to support yourself, you had bloody well better find some way that is going to be interesting. And you don’t do that by sitting around wondering about yourself”. ~ Katharine Hepburn

I asked myself why I made this blog…Why? Is it because others are doing it and I want to be in it also? Is it because I have the talent and I want to show it off? Well, no. I made this blog so that everything that is inside my head and what happened to my life will be well-documented and will not be wasted. This blog will serve as a depository of everything – from memories, plans, ambitions, gossip, news, nonsense works and dialogues, all!

Just like what my science teacher told me, “Do not rely on your memory, because memory falters. Jot everything down and read over and over again so that you remember”.

And so is the purpose of this blog.

Chez Nous: Local + International

Chez Nous, from the French word means home, is a new restaurant to go to in Davao City. Chef Chino, also the owner, has a passion in cooking that he went to a culinary school in Canada to hone his skill. Aside from that, he is the son of the owners of Chippens, also known in Davao for their good food, so no wonder that he really makes great and amazing food!

Chez Nous is located at Roxas Avenue corner Padre Gomez Streets, literally in front of Chippens. They serve meals from 9:30 AM to 9:30PM, Mondays to Saturdays.

The food had local ingredients but has an international taste. Chef Chino always see to it that the ingredients are fresh and everything on their menu is available everyday.

Also, the place is accessible so there is no problem if you go out there late, taxis and jeepneys are always available, plus it is so near the Night Market so there are a lot of people in the vicinity.

It was such an experience dining in Chez Nous, food with international taste but made from local ingredients. Made with passion and love.

Lorelei Beach Resort: A New Gem in IGACOS

Lorelei Beach Resort: A New Gem in IGACOS

I am sure that most of us just head to one of Samal Island’s beaches for a holiday or a long weekend escapade with friends and family. Mostly, we head back to the same beaches again and again, because one, we know it’s nice. Two, because we are comfortable and at peace.

For explorers like me, I like to try something new from time to time. This way, I can compare and have alternative choices during peak seasons, type of special occassion, when friends from other places visit Davao or depending on my mood.

In Barangay Catagman, Peñaplata, Island Garden City of Samal lies a newly-opened beach resort that can cater our escapade needs. They have seven rooms where we can stay overnight. Price ranges from 2,500 to 3,000 pesos depending on its capacity. Each rooms are named after the Little Mermaid’s royal princesses, Ariel and her sisters!

With their wide space, celebrations can be held here simultaneously because it can be done on different areas – pool area, shoreline, main building and the space fronting the building. There is also a wide parking space for vehicles.

They also have a souvenir corner where visitors can buy shirts and mugs.

If you are not that confident to let your kids swim in the sea, then you can let them swim in the kiddie swimming pool. There, they are safe. You can guard them by staying on the benches while drinking or eating.

It is much better to bring your own vehicle but Lorelei Beach Resort has a van that can transport you from the ferry wharf and back. They can charge 200 pesos per person up to 3 persons one way, for the use of van. If more than 3, then it will be 150 per head.

To get there, you will ride the ferry from Sasa Ferry Wharf. Each person is charged with 10 pesos, or if with vehicle, prices depend on the type of vehicle and the number of persons inside.

When you are in Samal already, it will be a 15-minute ride from the wharf to Lorelei Beach Resort.

Dagan Para Sa Gugma

Dagan Para Sa Gugma

I always make sure that we celebrate Valentine’s Day in an unforgettable and unique way. So when we knew about this pre-Valentine fun run of Big 8 Corporate Hotel, we signed up. Actually, we ran out of couples shirt so we got the shirt for singles, but our category was still couples.

image

The program proper started late because of the rain, but it did not stop us from reaching our goal – finish the race and have fun! Licensed Zumba instructors initiated the stretching and warm up exercises so that we will be conditioned during the run.

Me and Jules ran for four kilometers together and surprisingly, we were the first couple to reach the finish line. We were so happy with this accomplishment. We won some gift certificates and pool passes during the raffle.

image

image

Together with the other couples, we were tasked to declare our promise of love to one another infront of other participants. It is such a nice feeling to tell the whole world how much you love a person. We were also given a lock to be placed in their Love Lock area.

The race began and ended with a color blast.

Canyoneering AdvenTour

Canyoneering AdvenTour

Davao del Norte is rich in natural resources like caves, mountains and waterfalls. They are home of some endangered species of plants and animals. One of its municipalities, Kapalong, is now gaining recognition because of its beauty and richness of resources not found in other municipalities.

With this, the Municipal Government of Kapalong made use of its resources by making it an eco-tourism attraction. It will make people experience climb mountains, see exotic species of plants and animals, enter caves or appreciate the beauty of waterfalls and many others.

image

Last February 7, we went on a canyoneering adventure with my friends together with the staff of Municipal Tourism Office, DSPECS (Davao Speleological Conservation Society) and KARES (Kapalong Rescue and Emergency Service). My friends and I explored the Tugtugonan Falls and experienced our first canyoneering adventure.

image

The falls is 150 feet, and it is situated 128 meters above sea level. Although the travel to Barangay Gupitan takes 45 minutes from the town proper and the trekking is far, we enjoyed every step and were excited to reach the falls.

image

Of course, we volunteered first to try canyoneering and the experience was unforgettable! It was hard to climb and reach the top, but once you get there and ready to rappel, mixed feelings were felt. I was nervous, scared, excited, happy. But one thing is for sure, when I got down, it was so fulfilling! Another adventure off my bucket list.

What’s nice with our gears was that everything is from Petzl. It is a brand trusted for its caving and other outdoor equipment. We were truly safe with what we used. It was worth the 550 pesos fee.

image

It was such a nice experience and we hope to experience more of Kapalong. We plan to have caving soon.

For Help and Health: The Million Volunteer Run 3

For Help and Health: The Million Volunteer Run 3

I have joined another fun run/run for a cause today. Actually, this should be done last December 13, 2015 but was postponed to February 6, 2016. I have never joined the Million Volunteer Run 1 and 2 before because I was not informed or maybe I was just not interested at that time.

But by the time I knew about Million Volunteer Run 3, I immediately registered, paid and got excited. Of course, this is not just a fun activity but a humanitarian one.

The Million Volunteer Run is a humanitarian run organized by the Philippine Red Cross and the proceeds of the Million Volunteer Run 3 will capacitate communities to be more prepared and resilient against the intensified and much frequent buffet of disasters that hit our country, and to raise funds to purchase lifesaving vehicles and equipment. For me, joining this kind of activity is good because I can help in their fundraising even if it is just a small amount, and running is good for the body. It is for help and health. It is like hitting two birds with one stone! The run was simultaneous on all Red Cross Chapters all over the country.

I was in the 5K Female Category and I was so surprised and amazed that I finished 5th place, because my pace was so slow. Although it was a good news for me, too bad they only gave medals up to the 4th place.

Joining the MVR3 is such an accomplishment for me. I am looking forward for the MVR4 and other activities of the Philippine Red Cross.
