Bouldering and More in Activo Fitness

Bouldering and More in Activo Fitness

Activo Fitness is the most sophisticated gym in Tagum City. They have the latest gym equipment to suit your needs. Aside from sweating out through treadmills and lifting weights, they also offer TRX workout, zumba, zumba step and yoga classes.

Although they have been into the business for quiet a while, they never run out of exciting features to offer to gym enthusiasts.

This Saturday, May 28, will be the launching of the Fitness Boulder Wall, the first in the city. Bouldering is a form of rock climbing that is performed without the use of ropes or harnesses. While it can be done without any equipment whatsoever, most climbers use climbing shoes to help secure footholds, chalk to keep their hands dry, and bouldering mats to prevent injuries from falls (From Google).

It will be a big day because there will be a bouldering challenge with different categories to choose from. If you do not have any idea about bouldering but want to try, explore and experience fun and adventure, you can join in the NOVICE Category.
Kids can also join the competition in the JUNIORS Category. Who knows, kids might discover their potential in boulder climbing. There is also an OPEN Category where the experienced and bouldering fanatics can join.

Climbing may look simple, but if you experience it there, you can really say that it’s not. It is so hard to carry your whole body and rely on the strength that comes from your arms and legs.

Difficult it is, but the prizes of the challenge awaits the one that can endure the pain and surpass the challenges.

So if you want to have some adventure, try climbing the boulder wall. It is not just fun and exciting, but a great exercise for those who want to skip the gym equipment.

Be part of a one of a kind adventure. Head on to Activo Fitness and register now.

Canyoneering AdvenTour

Canyoneering AdvenTour

Davao del Norte is rich in natural resources like caves, mountains and waterfalls. They are home of some endangered species of plants and animals. One of its municipalities, Kapalong, is now gaining recognition because of its beauty and richness of resources not found in other municipalities.

With this, the Municipal Government of Kapalong made use of its resources by making it an eco-tourism attraction. It will make people experience climb mountains, see exotic species of plants and animals, enter caves or appreciate the beauty of waterfalls and many others.

Last February 7, we went on a canyoneering adventure with my friends together with the staff of Municipal Tourism Office, DSPECS (Davao Speleological Conservation Society) and KARES (Kapalong Rescue and Emergency Service). My friends and I explored the Tugtugonan Falls and experienced our first canyoneering adventure.

image

The falls is 150 feet, and it is situated 128 meters above sea level. Although the travel to Barangay Gupitan takes 45 minutes from the town proper and the trekking is far, we enjoyed every step and were excited to reach the falls.

image

Of course, we volunteered first to try canyoneering and the experience was unforgettable! It was hard to climb and reach the top, but once you get there and ready to rappel, mixed feelings were felt. I was nervous, scared, excited, happy. But one thing is for sure, when I got down, it was so fulfilling! Another adventure off my bucket list.

What’s nice with our gears was that everything is from Petzl. It is a brand trusted for its caving and other outdoor equipment. We were truly safe with what we used. It was worth the 550 pesos fee.

image

It was such a nice experience and we hope to experience more of Kapalong. We plan to have caving soon.

The North Face Mountain Challenge

The North Face Mountain Challenge

Running a seven-kilometer trail is such an accomplishment for me, and having a finisher’s medal, too! It was an honor for me to be part of The North Face Mountain 7KM Trail Challenge.

Me and my husband were informed by our organizer-friend, Dax Ang and Erwin Emata, the famous Filipino Mt. Everest climber, to join this event. Since it is just in Davao City, we joined this prestigious and challenging event.

At first, it was just easy but as the trail goes on, it was hard. There were lots of obstacles – fallen branches, trees, boulders, slopes, and water that made the way slippery, but I was just going slow so as not to fall or slide. It was hard yet it was fun!

Our goal is to finish earlier so that we can get the finisher’s medal with The North Face logo printed on its sling, but we were not able to arrive to join the top 80. But then, all participants who arrived beyond that were given the medal but those with plain sling. And that’s just okay with us. I had my first medal from running and outdoor adventure! Cool. I also got the Banana Boat Sun Protection in sachet as their giveaways.

It was indeed unforgettable. Exploring the other side of Davao City – the mountainous yet residential parts of it – is quiet amazing! Davao City is really big. I am looking forward for another adventure organized by Dax and Erwin.

Mid-Year In Bukidnon

Mid-Year In Bukidnon

I didn’t know if there is a “mid-year” evaluation because what I do know is that evaluations happen every December. When I heard the “good news” that the City Mayor’s Office will be having a mid-year evaluation at Dahilayan Adventure Park in Bukidnon, I was very excited. It will be my first time. A lot of my friends have been there and their testimonies were great. I know the place will be very nice and the experience will be unforgettable.

Of course, I was soooo right! It was a very nice place but it was very far. From Davao City to Bukidnon, from Bukidnon highway to the innermost barangay named Dahilayan, I guess we spent most of our time just sitting around and waiting to arrive.

When we were there, my friends roamed around and explored the area. It was very wide. We took pictures right away even if our baggage were not yet settled.

DSCN4594 DSCN4599 DSCN4601 DSCN4603 DSCN4620Then we went to our room which was very cozy. We were in the second floor so we can really see a huge part of the area from above. I really liked our room. We also had a terrace.
DSCN4610 DSCN4612After placing our things inside the room, we began to explore.
DSCN4620 DSCN4623 DSCN4630 DSCN4636 DSCN4707DSCN4722 DSCN4723     One of the most unforgettable event that happened in Dahilayan was when I experienced the deadly ride “Drop Zone”. I cannot describe my feelings that time. We were dropped from a height of a tower. I just shouted so hard, then laugh so much because I conquered my fear.
DSCN4685 DSCN4687 DSCN4688 DSCN4695 DSCN4703Of course, our adventure will not be complete without good food so we roamed around and tried their cafes and restaurants.

Water Rafting – Advanced Level

Water Rafting – Advanced Level

Last April 29 and 30, we were in Zamboanga del Norte. We took the opportunity to tour the place in just 2 days, with an overnight stay in Dakak Beach Resort, free meals, free rides in Fantasyland, roam around Dapitan and many others in just P1,199.00 per person. Of course, me and my daughter Jillian joined, together with my mother and my nephew, Justin.

We were in Cagayan de Oro City two days before the tour. We went there ahead because it will take almost one day to travel from Davao City to Cagayan de Oro City. Also, we have other plans to do on the next day.

Speaking of plans, me and Jillian went on a whitewater rafting again the day after we arrived. But we did the advanced level this time. It was more fun and more thrilling. We enjoyed it so much, although our skin did not. We had sunburn because our attire, which I totally ignored and forgot to prepare, was so inappropriate.

Next time, we will try the extreme level. I just hope Jules can join us.

Caving Adventure

Caving Adventure

We just had our caving adventure in New Corella, Davao del Norte. I really want to be a member of YAMOG (‘Yond Adventure Mountain-caving Adventure Group) so I need to render my service for 350 hours. So in order to do that, I have to attend meetings and caving activities. So I started today.

There are more than 70 caves in New Corella but Bondoc, the cave we went to earlier, was a beginner’s cave. It was dry but muddy inside. There were 2 caves that we visited and we have seen the stalactites, stalagmites, columns, formations, bats, lime stone, birds, frogs, gecko and insects. We were so amazed at how these caves were formed.

After the caves, we also went to Casilac Falls. It was not so high but it was so pretty. We liked the waters so much – so clear, cold and refreshing!

The last activity that we had before we head back home was tree planting. We planted five trees because we want to make ourselves not just an adventurous person but ecologically-conscious beings also. We want to bring back the lost trees there even in our own little way.

I was also very happy because it was the first time that me and my husband Jules, were together in an adventure. I was also with my friend Joshua and my Couchsurfing friend, Hanna. She is from Netherlands. It was such a very nice holiday. I really hope to have more fun adventure in New Corella and with YAMOG as I work hard to accumulate the 350 hours.

First Water Rafting – Beginner Level

First Water Rafting – Beginner Level

Last May 13, 2012 was Mother’s Day. Since we were in Cagayan de Oro City (except Jules), I planned to celebrate it in an adventurous way. I called my friend to book us for white water rafting. Good thing she was able to include us in a group of some local tourists and foreigners in 1st Rafting Adventure.

It was a very unforgettable experience for me and Jillian. I guess she was not scared or shocked. I was so happy that she really enjoyed it and the next time we will be in Cagayan de Oro again, we will try white water rafting extreme/advanced level.
